This amazes me, it was one of the very first tracks to use a drum machine and synths and paved the way for the early hip hop pioneers. I mean you can hear it straight away, that familiar old school sound. But most surprisingly, IT’S FUCKING CAT STEVENS!

Fixing my Juno

So my Juno decided to act like a cunt and some of the keys stopped working, which is well shite. Naturally, I opened it up to have a look.

It really wasn’t that hard to pull apart, and the inner mechanics all seems pretty easy to work out.

I actually connected it back to the main board once the keys were off and ran it through my headphones to find the dead key/s. Kinda got me tempted to make a custom key kit, I mean I could build anything around the underlying board.

Anyway long story short, these bubble strip connectors are apparently heaps crap quality on Juno-Ds and fuck up all the time. I sent an email to Roland and I’ve ordered replacement strips for $12 each. Haven’t got them yet so no idea if I can fix it, but hopefully a cheap fix to an annoying problem. And then maybe once it’s fixed I’ll start using it instead of just running Midi to plugins ahahaha.

Save the Jade Monkey

So in about February the rumours that the Jade Monkey was going to get canned to make way for a new hotel were confirmed. And a massive shitstorm prevailed. I was fascinated by the power of Facebook, which had literally 1000s of signatures on a petition to save the iconic venue within 24 hours. News coverage, a bit of fluff from the relevant politicians, the usual “it’s a fuckin disgrace” from the youth all followed. It was pretty righteous. Of course in the end it meant shit cos the land was purchased by a private corporation who can do whatever the fuck they want. I played the Jade a number of times, and it’s important for Adelaide to maintain venues like this that are there to support our local scene. The Jade will cease to exist, and maybe Zac and Co will set up something even more awesome. But at least it’s closure got people talking about the issues for small venues and for live music in SA. Hats off to all those who fight the good fight.

Had a well mexico weekend over the Adelaide Cup long weekend – best mate’s 30th, cousin’s 40th and Ariel Pink. At one point, at about 3am around a barrel fire in Mt Torrens, I was told to check out this track. Check it out and you’ll see why. Massively obscure, underrated awesomeness.
